Salt Cay was once a thriving island of over 1000 people who worked the salt industry. For centuries Salt Cay produced much of the salt used round the world.
Many of the current residents once worked the ships that called on ports all over the world delivering salt. They grew up on an island where the salt looked like snow piled in huge quantities waiting to be loaded on Lighters and taken to sailing ships.
Now Salt Cay is a destination resort and UNESCO preserve where you can scuba dive, snorkel, hike, nap, wander or do whatever you darned well please--including nothing at all. Time is forgotten. But, too soon, you board a plane to return to phones, faxes and cell phones and ponder returning to Salt Cay and a simpler time.
We have some of the finest beaches in the world and often no one on them. North Beach is 3 miles of white sand. The Southern shore near the Cottage offers pristine and isolated white sand beaches and craggy, rocky shores. The Land's End is spectacular.
